Getting started

How to use the MAIOS package with Codex

If you have downloaded the package but are unsure what to do next, you need a ChatGPT account, the Codex desktop app and a new folder in which to extract the ZIP file.

Once the folder is open in Codex, one message is enough to begin. The assistant reads the instructions and the context prepared by the Form, then asks only for the information still needed.

Before you begin

What you need.

01

A ChatGPT account

You need to be able to sign in to the app and open Codex with your account. Availability depends on the account or workspace you are using.

02

The desktop app

Install the ChatGPT app for Windows or macOS, sign in and check that Codex can open a folder on your computer.

03

The MAIOS package

Download the ZIP file prepared at the end of the Form. Keep the original file until you have checked the extracted folder.

04

A new folder

Do not mix the first run with an existing project. Create an empty folder dedicated to the package.

The official OpenAI guide to the desktop app covers installation, signing in with a ChatGPT account, opening a folder and starting a new Codex chat.

The simplest route

Download and extract the package.

  1. At P5, select Download the AI Setup Package and wait for the browser to finish the download.
  2. Create a new folder with a clear name, such as MAIOS-Project.
  3. Open the ZIP file and choose Extract all. Select the new folder as the destination.
  4. Open the extracted folder and check that it contains at least AGENTS.md, START_HERE.md and CODEX_SETUP.md.
Do not work inside the ZIP file

Codex needs to open the extracted folder. Seeing the files in a ZIP preview does not mean they have been extracted.

If you prefer guidance

You can ask Codex to extract the file.

Place the ZIP file in a new folder, open that folder in Codex and send this message:

Extraction message

This folder contains the MAIOS package as a ZIP file. Extract it into a new subfolder, check that it contains AGENTS.md and START_HERE.md, and stop before running scripts or modifying other files.

If your app can access the browser or computer, you can also ask it to help with the download from the P5 page already open. Codex may ask for confirmation or point out where to click: the package download depends on the current Form state and must not be replaced by an invented address.

In the desktop app

Open the extracted folder in Codex.

  1. Start the desktop app and sign in with your ChatGPT account.
  2. Choose to open a folder and select the folder that directly contains AGENTS.md and START_HERE.md.
  3. Start a new Codex chat in that folder.

If you see only another ZIP file or a folder with the same name, you are probably one level too high. Enter the folder that displays the project files.

First conversation

Send one message.

Recommended message

Read START_HERE.md and begin with the context already gathered.

Codex also reads the instructions in the folder, reconstructs what the Form has already defined and identifies the first point that still needs clarification. You do not need to paste the entire project again.

If you want to check its understanding first, send this as a second message:

Initial check

Before modifying files, explain in plain language what is already configured, what is missing and which first result we can verify.

During the conversation

How to continue without technical expertise.

  • Answer with the facts you know. If you do not know an answer yet, say so: that is valid information.
  • Ask for examples. You can write “Give me an example related to my work” or “Explain this without technical terms.”
  • Begin with concise or anonymized material. Connect real data and services only after you understand the first test and its boundaries.
  • Verify one result at a time. Ask what will be produced, how you will check it and what will not be done yet.
  • Confirm external effects. Sending, publishing, accounts, integrations and changes to real systems require separate authorization.

A downloaded, extracted or opened package does not prove that a service is installed, active or published. The conversation completes and verifies the configuration before real effects are introduced.

Ready-to-use messages

Three ways to continue.

I do not know what to build yet

Start from the information already gathered and show me two concrete possibilities for my work. Explain which first result I could verify without connecting real data.

I run a business or organization

Let us use a synthetic case similar to my work. Ask me one question at a time and help me define people, sources and the verification criterion.

I want to develop an application

Show me the initial project state and propose the smallest prototype that verifies the main function. Do not install dependencies until you have explained the plan.

Recovery and checks

If something does not work.

Codex says it cannot find START_HERE.md

Check that you extracted the ZIP file and opened the folder that directly contains START_HERE.md. If needed, write: Check which folder you are working in and show me the top-level files without modifying anything.

Codex asks me to repeat the entire Form

Write: The context is already in the package. Read project/PROJECT_BRIEF.md, project/CURRENT_STATE.md and setup/CONTEXT_REPORT.md, then ask me only for what is genuinely missing.

I do not understand a question

Write: Explain why this information changes the project and give me a simple example. If I can defer it, mark it as still to be defined.

I want to continue in a new chat

Open a new Codex chat in the same folder and write: Resume the project from the saved state. Codex should reread the state from the files instead of reconstructing the work only from the previous conversation.
